they said that my touch felt good
and that they wanted my kisses

i couldn’t decipher their meaning
and i kept rubbing tense muscles

with each run of my fingers over skin
they squirmed and tried to capture me

but i am not one to be caged
fed only words of love and rough touches

they said they’d give up the weed and alcohol
for me to be their drug

no one has ever prescribed me as the answer
and i’m not one to let people forget the past

eyes looked at me with more than longing
and i smiled and told them it’s just the full moon

i drove away with the radio blazing
and with lies tied to my neurons

i had fought against knotted muscles
and earned fake love for my efforts

in the morning my fingers won’t remember their sins
and their back will hurt again
